TravelSmart is an initiative of the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority (also known as TransLink). TransLink is responsible for regional transportation planning, transit services and major road networks. Information about TransLink can be found on their website.
Privacy on the TravelSmart Website
Because we receive certain types of information from visitors to the TravelSmart website, we want visitors to understand the terms and conditions regarding the use of that information. The following privacy statement discloses what information we receive and how we use it.

What type of information does TravelSmart collect at its website?
The information we collect depends upon what individuals do when visiting this site. In general, we collect two types of information: 1) personal information individuals supply voluntarily; and 2) aggregated information about website users as a whole.
- Personal Information
We may collect personal information when individuals submit comments to TravelSmart or register for online contests or other promotional programs we may offer or sign up for One Customer subscription services. This personal information may include individuals' name, email address, phone number, street address, etc.
- Aggregated Information
We collect certain types of information about general activity at the TravelSmart website. This does not include personally identifiable information, but does include how many times TravelSmart's website has been visited, what pages or search terms have been requested most, what domain names (i.e., www.google.ca) visitors have arrived at our website from as well as the date and time of each visit. TravelSmart gathers and compiles this information into an aggregate form for statistical analysis and reporting purposes. These reports track website activity overall rather than on an individual level. TravelSmart uses third party measurement software to gather and compile aggregated information. This software does not collect, track or have any access to personal information received at the TravelSmart website.

How does TravelSmart use this information?
The personal information supplied by visitors to our website is used for the purpose of fulfilling individuals' requests (i.e., seeking information, entering contests, etc.). TravelSmart does not sell, trade, or rent individuals' personal information to anyone, or otherwise disclose it except: 1) when the purpose and manner of the disclosure has been provided to the visitor prior to their providing the information, or 2) when disclosure is required or authorized by law.
TransLink (and third parties contracted to perform work on TransLink's behalf) may, from time to time, send to individuals email or other communications containing information about TravelSmart which we believe will be of interest to them. TransLink (and its representatives) may use individuals' personal information for the purpose of sending information that may be of use to them, responding to inquiries, enhancing and assisting with their use of TransLink's website, and providing opportunities for participation in periodic travel surveys. Aggregated information does not include personal identifying information and therefore such information will not identify individuals. We use aggregated information to assist in determining a number of things such as which areas of the TravelSmart website customers frequent based on traffic to those areas; peak traffic hours of use, etc. This helps us continue to build a better website. We may disclose aggregated information to third parties (such as advertisers) or include it in public records.

Cookies
A cookie is a small data file that websites commonly send to browsers. A cookie file contains information that can identify individuals anonymously in order to track traffic patterns and add functionality to the website. Cookies don't identify people personally, but rather identify their computer when they visit our site. A cookie can't read data off hard disks or read cookie files created by other sites. A browser can be set to warn the computer user before accepting cookies. In this case, the computer user will receive the warning message with each cookie. The computer user may choose to refuse cookies by turning them off in their browser. One does not need to have cookies turned on to use the majority of the TravelSmart website, however one may need them in certain areas of the site to perform certain functions.

TravelSmart requests that parents or guardians monitor their childrens' use of this service. No personal information should be provided by minor children without parental or guardian consent.

Parents
TravelSmart encourages parents and guardians to be aware of how their children spend their time online and to participate with them in their online activities. Visitors to the TravelSmart website who are under the age of majority should not submit any information without the consent of a parent or guardian. Visitors under the age of majority who are eligible to win prizes through a TravelSmart contest are never awarded these prizes unless their parent or guardian has signed all appropriate declaration and release forms.
