TravelSmart Programs for Teachers
As a service that is the backbone to many different communities, public transit shares many things in common with schools. This is why TransLink is constantly trying to support families, schools and students through different school programs.
We recognize that "school age" covers everything from 4 to 19 years old. We love the thought of kids growing up using public transit, especially to get to school, and TransLink has programs that will help students transition from playschool to high school. Starting in September 2011, TransLink will have a brand new set of TravelSmart programs for teachers to use in classroom discussions and projects, and training to help students get to school more efficiently and, as always, safely.
TransLink is continually working with different government ministries and agencies, school districts, individual institutions and their student societies and parent-teacher associations. We're busy listening, responding, and developing!
Starting in September 2011, TransLink will have a brand new set of TravelSmart programs for teachers to use.
School Programs
Some of our programs include:
- Student passes: We have a variety of passes for students in high school and university to help them save money while attending full-time studies.
- International Walk to School Week: TransLink is proud to support this annual event. Every year, TransLink allows elementary and high school students to ride transit for free during that week.
- TravelSmart - supporting active transportation: We encourage students to combine public transit with walking, cycling, driving and ride-sharing and outline the many benefits related to being TravelSmart - for individuals, communities and our environment.
