Great work Vancouver!
Congratulations are in order - well done Metro Vancouver, your green choices have helped make our region the Greenest City in Canada!
According the the Economist's Greenest City Index, Vancouver takes first place amongst all cities in North America for the lowest C02 emissions and best air quality. The index looked at 27 cities across North America and rated the environmental performance nine categories: CO2, energy, land use, buildings, transport, water, waste, air and environmental governance.
Among the remaining Canadian cities on the green index, Toronto placed ninth overall, Ottawa was 12th, Calgary 14th and Montreal 19th. San Francisco takes the number one spot as the Greenest City in North America.
Every little bit counts and it's amazing how our collective choices can make a big overall impact. You may be surprised how easy it can be to incorporate a few small changes to your routine. Try cycling once in a while, or even consider switching from a car to a bike!
Abandoning driving isn't workably for everyone, but there are easy things you can do to reduce your fuel consumption (and save money). Consider carpooling, and or even occasionally teleworking.
