Will 2012 be the Year of the Electric Car - or is it Much Ado About Nothing?

Electric cars have been a tough sell to consumers partly due to an exaggerated "range anxiety" - otherwise known as the fear of getting stuck on the side of the road with a drained battery. High prices also serve as a big obstacle.

Despite these major road blocks, sales of the Nissan Leaf are expected to double this year, Tesla Motors reports record global sales and several other electric cars are poised for success in 2012. In fact one expert predicts that 2012 will be the year of the electric car in the UK.

The topic of electric car debate remains as charged as a freshly charged Nissan Leaf, ready to hit the road. According to You Are Not Alone - America Hates Electric Cars and its pseudo rebuttal Hey, Electric Cars Don’t Totally Suck, the electric car still has an uphill battle ahead. Here are ideas to help transform electric cars in 2012.
