12 Days of TravelSmart
With the 12 Days of TravelSmart, we bring you the TravelSmart wish list. This is a list of some of the top TravelSmart goodies that would be appreciated by anyone on your list who walks, cycles, takes transit or drives.
However, we must confess: our list only contains 11 items. We're leaving it up to you to suggest a twelfth TravelSmart item. Make your suggestion in the comments box below before December 20, 2011 for your chance to win $50.
Day 1. A pedometer. The perfect gift for the walker you know, it counts your steps and keeps track of how many calories you've burned. The feedback you get from a pedometer is quite reinforcing when you realize how little effort it is to walk to your destination. A great stocking stuffer.
Day 2. Moxi Lolly Roller Skates. Are you shopping for someone who wishes they had new wheels? This may not be exactly what they meant, but these will leave them speechless. Let them be responsible for kicking off a new trend of active transportation - let roller skating be overlooked no longer!
Day 3. Transit pass. It's amazing how much you use a transit pass when you have one. The recipient to this gift will undoubtedly appreciate not having to kibble cobble change together, let them proudly produce a transit pass!
Day 4. Head band and wrist bands. Active transportation is a major part of being TravelSmart. Look sharp as you walk or cycle to your destination with retro matching terry cloth head bands and wrist bands.
Day 5. Blinging bike bell. Nothing says 'on your left' than the chime of a good bicycle bell. The right bell can dazzle up even the clunkiest of junky rides - and, it keeps the cyclist on your shopping list safe.
Day 6. Audio book. Anyone who commutes has time on their hands that can be otherwise better spent. An audio book can be downloaded as an MP3 to most devices, and used while you're driving or carpooling, on the bus, walking, - or (thought we don't recommend it) cycling. Bonus - no packaging equals a greener gift!
Day 7. Bike helmet. Hopefully the cyclist on your list already has a bike helmet and wears it - but there are some pretty stylish helmets on the market that will allow the cyclist on your list to hit the bike path in style.
Day 8. Fanny pack. Why did the fanny pack fall out of favour? So useful, it's a salmon sized luggage compartment around your waist. Fanny packs are great for keeping keys, a phone, and much much more - allowing your recipient to swing their arms with purpose as they walk. (FYI, fanny packs are sometimes known as waist packs.)
Day 9. Zombie family car decals. In case of a zombie invasion, fool the zombies into thinking you're one of them with this gory take on the over-done car family cartoon decal. A great gift for the carpooler on your list!
Day 10. Travel mug. Travel mugs are like umbrellas - so useful when you have a decent one - but so easy to lose. Perfect for the transit user, walker, car driver or carpooler, travel mugs will give your gift recipient that warm fuzzy feeling.
Day 11. Forkless cruiser bike. For the cyclist on your list who truly has everything - get them an odd looking hipster bike!
What should Day 12 be? Post your Twelfth Day of TravelSmart suggestion below before December 20, 2011, and be entered in a draw to win $50.
Ho ho ho and best of luck!
