Helijet - Where Opportunity Meets Leadership
Air travel may not be the first transportation option you think of when considering TravelSmart initiatives, but Helijet will change your mind! Not only do they have a "Fly Carbon Neutral" program, but they actively deliver a whole host of TravelSmart strategies and initiatives that are supported - and adopted - throughout the company, from their President onwards.
Helijet encourages their staff to leave their vehicles at home whenever possible, including public transit and cycling for daily travel needs. These TravelSmart options are always easier for employees to choose when employers, like Helijet, provide amenities such as secure bicycle parking facilities, showers and lockers, and Transit FareSavers for work-related trips. And possibly the most TravelSmart option of all – teleworking (something that parents especially appreciate), is also available to those employees able to effectively complete their work from home.
Transit has become a big part of Helijet's staff travel.
Transit has become a big part of Helijet's staff travel. Since the launch of the Canada Line, Helijet crews have been able to take advantage of this new stress-free commute between their two terminals in Richmond and downtown Vancouver. Previously, crews had to commute either by driving themselves in a company car or taking a taxi. But with this new transit service, crews are able to shave 10 minutes off their commute and are far more relaxed, knowing they're not going to be sitting in traffic, concerned about missing their flight. Best of all, since using the Canada Line, Helijet has eliminated one company car from its fleet. In fact, it's become known as such a reliable travel option for staff, Helijet employees often enthusiastically promote transit to their customers as well.
Jay Minter, Director, Marketing & Product Innovation - unofficially known as "the transit guy" at Helijet - is largely credited with supporting and managing these TravelSmart initiatives. Jay doesn't own a car himself, making him the perfect leader to integrate TravelSmart principles into the workplace. Jay has become such a reliable source of information, staff often ask him for advice on planning transit trips, whether for work or personal use!
