FCV, a Vancouver-based interactive agency, experienced significant growth in 2009. So much so, they outgrew their Yaletown office and were in need of new space to handle their expanding staff and business needs. President and CEO John Starkey and his management team considered several locations around the downtown core, but in the end, their deciding factor was based on the importance of transportation accessibility and location.

This was critical in their settlement decision, and resulted in office space at 333 Seymour Street - directly across from Waterfront Station. Not only did this offer quick and convenient access to the West Coast Express, SkyTrain, SeaBus and many bus routes, but it is also in the heart of Vancouver's financial district and just steps away from Gastown's technology hub - providing easy transit and walking distance proximity for employees, clients and business partners.

After their move, 37 of FCV's 40 employees now actively commute by walking, biking, or using some form of public transportation.

FCV has always embraced TravelSmart initiatives, with the company promoting active travel options, and employees often walking, biking or taking transit while at their old office. However, their previous location required a greater reliance on driving, simply due to its location. After the move, FCV was able to drastically reduce the number of auto commutes and dependence on travel by car, and significantly increase the use of Vancouver's various systems of public transportation, walking and biking.

Derek Whyte, VP of Operations, and part of the management team who selected the new FCV location notes, "Our new office not only created options that led to positive changes for our staff and clients, but it created viable and sustainable outcomes that impact our community and the city we live in."

After their move, 37 of FCV's 40 employees now actively commute by walking, biking, or using some form of public transportation. This equates to 92.5% of FCV's staff travelling smart! FCV's office move, and its management's commitment to finding office space that met everyone's needs, especially transportation, made all the difference.
